“I used to warm up until I felt ready. Now I warm up until it does.”
When did it first surprise you
Mile eight of a training run. I felt done. The ring disagreed, quietly. I ran four more and it was right. I have stopped negotiating with it, mostly.
Mostly
Once a month I do something it has not cleared. She looks at the ring. It does not punish this. It notes it.

“My whole career was reading rooms. It is pleasant, finally, to be the room.”
What does readiness mean at your stage
Smaller things, measured better. Ready for the stairs. Ready for the grandchildren, which is a different number, higher. Ready to drive at night. The ring is honest about the last one and I have made peace with the honesty.
Would you go back
To guessing? No. Guessing was charming for sixty years. I gave it a good run.

“We stopped asking each other ‘are you okay.’ The rings confer.
Two rings, how does that work
Household mode. They share readiness, so when the baby wakes at three, whoever is closer to ready gets the gentle pulse. It is fair in a way we were not managing on our own.
Any complaints
Tom says his ring sides with mine. Tom, from the kitchen: it does. The app calls this consensus.

Owner features are recorded in the household, edited for length, and filed. Compensation for participation is issued as standing. Households appearing on this page reported a mean readiness of 96.4% during their interviews, which the interviews did not affect, because interviews do not.
